The Havelock School Committee met on Monday, December 16. Present Messrs Mills (chairman), Brown, Clarke, Dorreen, Vennimore. Phoenix's necessary alterations will be soon finished, so the genial Captain Fisk will have both boats ready for patrons shortly. In the evening Mr Peake exhibited the magic lantern m the old school-house, which was crowded children. /" St. Peter's Chubch.— At a meeting of the Vestry of St. Peter's Church held on Monday December 16, 1889, the Rev. H. Ensor m the chair, the following tenders for repairing and naming the Church were received. W. Price, painting only, £9 9s ; R. Jones, shingling the roof and repairing building, all material found, £25 19s 6d ; B. Jones, painting only (accepted), £8 5s • G. Hayden, shingling the roof and repairing the building, all material found (accepted), £21 8s 9d ; G. Hayden, painting only, £9 195. It was resolved that the work be commenced on Monday, January ;6th, and be completed m six weeks. .jt Sunday School. — Notwithstanding the severe weather of last Monday night, a well attended meeting was held m the schoolroW, to distribute the Sunday School prizes, etc. Mr Harker presided, and Mr James Horn read the statement, showing that from a commencement of 24 children the school now numbered 89 on its roll, with an attendance of 60, and a favourable balance of over £3. The library consists of over 400 volumes, and the parents always show a ready response to any appeal made to them for their assistance. Prizes were distributed as follows :• — Ist class, girls, 1 Emily Neal and Caroline Harms (equal) 1, Ada Horn 2; 2nd clas, Jane Trueman 1, Mary Bragg 2 ; 3rd class, May Horn 1, Agnes Williams 2 ; 4th class, Ethel Bragg 1, Kate Bragg 2 ; Ist class, boys,' Alf Horn 1, Geo. Aubry 2; 2nd class, Wm. Harms 1, Geo. Horn 2 ; 3rd class, Charles Moess 1, John Gledhill 2 ; 4th class, Wm. Horn 1, Wm. Neal 2, Special prizes for attendance and good conduct, were given by Mr Horn to Rose' Bragg, and by Mr Mills, to Wm. Harms. Votes of thanks were given to Mr James Horn superintendent, and the teachers, to Master Wm. Wiimot for presiding at the harmonium and his assistance at the singing, and to Mr Harker for presiding, as well as for his instructive and amusing address to the children.
