CRICKET.
4» We are promised a visit from a team of the " Wanderers " of Christchurch,. to engage "-the Wairau Club at the wickets. Our local men are no doubt aware. that the Wanderers are a f ormidable section of the cricketing world, and that their laurels have been honestly earned. If they do not know it, we beg they will accept our assurance to that ■ effect. Such a team niustj for the honor of Blenheim cricket, be met by picked men, and we trust the Selection Committee will bring to bear upon their labor their best attention. It is no secret now that cricket m this place has fallen to a low ebb, m fact, to so low an ebb that it is uhnost moribund. Is this state of things to continue ; is the flue old English game to be shoved altogether aside for lawn-tennis? It is for the lovers of cricket and the active members of our Club, to bestir themselves to remove from the place the reproach that lies upon it. Our men will certainly not win the forthcoming match; but they need not be disgracefully beaten. If they are so, they may as well let cricket die m the place ; if they make anything like a decent Bhow of skill and earnestness, they will themselves be stimulated, and the public will acquire confidence and revived interest m them.
