♦ (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, July 9. J. Pownall, the well-known financial and commission agent, died on Saturday, aged 70. Henry Jury, aged 86, died suddenly yesterday, He was missed during the morning, and his bedroom door was burst open, when the deceased was" found lying m bed, having apparently passed away while asleep. Masteeton, July 9. A painful case of supposed suicide by drowning has occurred at Mangamahoe. Annie Kate Lang, wife of a Masterton settler, had been engaged nursing at Mangamahoe. She left the house on Friday morning, not returning. A search party which was instituted found her slippers on the bank of the river yesterday, three miles from the house. The river was dragged and the body recovered. Westport, July 10. No further trace has been discovered of the body of Dr Thorpe supposed to be drowned m the Bullerßiver. Greyjioctii, July 10. Thomas Gilbert, a miner working near Kokiri was found dead m the tail race with i stone over a ton m weight on his chest, which was crushed. He was quite dead. Another man is reported to have been tilled at Sullhan's Gully.
