j (UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION.) ; Auckland, July 8. . Five well known citizens, G. Aicken, G. Fraser (land agent), A. Kidd, (hotelkeeper), G. Fraser (iron-founder) and H. Campbell (solicitor), lodged petitions yesterday to be adjudged bankrupts. Their failure is not due to business difficulties, but to non-success of the syndicate m Avhich they engaged some years ago for the purpose of purchasing a block of land at Ellcrslie. The Bank -of New South Wales obtained judgment against them a few days ago m respect to money lent to the syndicate with the result that the five gentlemen named have filed a petition of insolvency. Punisdin, July 9. The Pliuuuix jam factory having adopted the principle of proiit sharing, to-day divided a bonus equal to 7£ per cent among all employes. c
