Archdeacon Stock, who is leaving for England, has presented the City Council wfth the nucleus of a free public library m the shape of 175 valuable books. The Babbit Conference has dispersed to meet m Sydney some time hence, after the experiment with M. Pasteur's chicken cholera has been completed. Mr Bell, the New Zealand representative, leaves Sydney for New Zealand to-day. Dunedin, June 29. The charge of libel brought by Albert Dornwell, butcher, against Strachan was dismissed, the Justices being unable to agree. Some anxiety is felt respecting the American barque J. D. Peters, for this port. She left New York on February 14, and ia therefore 137 days out.
