At a meeting of the Hoßpital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday a sum of £125 was received from San Franoieco, this be* ing a bequest left to Auckland by tha late Ferdinard Bartb, who died some time ago. An assay of stuff from Wilson's claim at Whangamata, Thamea, was made at the Bank of New Zpaland yes'erday, and resulted in tbe yield of gold and silver of the valoe of £54 18a Id per too. A too of ■tuff from Heilegare Creek, tested by Fra er and Socs, yielded bullion worth Is 6d. Taubamgi, Oot. 26. A public meeting is to be held on Saturday to nrge on the Government the necessity for opening up Crown and Native lands for setthment. Tests made ti quartz found on the reefs at Tepoke show that the stone is not pa^ able.
