WRECK OF THE CHEVIOT.
SOME OF THE DTtOtVXED. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WeiiLlXistox, Oct. 22. The following cable message lias been received by the Press Association iron: Melbourne, giving the names of the passengers drowned m the wreck of thf steamer Cheviot off Melbourne Heads: — Steerage passengers —Mesdames Bukcr, Clayton, Davis, and Peters, Miss O'Brien, Messrs Robert Jeffrey, Edmund O'Kelly, Lawrence Morris, Arthur Goodliffe, W. Poster, J. Hunt, and J. Pavland. It is doubtful whether the list is complete, and possibly there may be one or two others vet to add to it. DuXF.DK, Oct. 22. A private cable states that Donald, Cameron, and McCallum, of the Cheviot's crew were drowned, Campbell was saved. All have relatives m Dunedin. McCallum was on tho Tairoa when she was wrecked. 'The Cheviot was an iron screw steamer, of 120 h.p., her registered tonnage being 1226 gross, and 7G4 net. Her length was 230 ft 2in ; breadth 32ft 2in ; and depth 17ft flin. ' She was built ia 1870.]
