ARCHBISHOP CROKE AND IRISH TAXES.
HAN LA?* AND BEACH. COLONIAL EXHIBITIONS. (SPECIAL TO UNTTED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) London, March S. Sir Herbert Sandford, British Commissioner to the Adelaide Ju bilee Exhibition, sails on April 14th. The sum of thirty thousand pounds has been proposed as part of a vote of one hundred and ten thousand, to Captain Brennan for his torpedo rights. The Irish members objected to vote for the grant m aid of the Adelaide Exhibition, because the Exhibitions at Cork and Dublin had not been assisted by the Government. Mr Henniker Heaton retorted that Australia had spent £100,000 on English and European Exhibitions during recent years. The vote was ultimately passed. The Secretary of the Treasury said that similar claims from New South Wales and Victoria had been recognised. March 9. Archbishop Croke explains that he never advised a general non payment of taxes by the Irish people. Mr E. Stanhcpe states that the Government are m honor bound to provide the armaments promised for colonial forts. A Church Colonising Society is announced, with a capital of a quarter of a million. The objects of the society are to assist emigrants. Hanlan rows Beach on November 27th, and w 11 sail for Australia, via San Francisco, on August Oth.
