HORRIBLE MURDER OF A FIREMAN.
SHOT ON A TRAIN,

Donedin, August 24,
As the 10 o'olook goods train from Clinton for Invercargill was Bearing Wairona last night, John Henderson, the fireman, was shot dead by a map, unknown, from the bank alongside the line. The train pnt baok to Clinton. The brakesman and driver were on the engine at the time. Henderson's wife and family reside at Invercargill. There is no due to the murderer.

There is no fresh information re the muidei to hand. The guard (DuDoan) says he Raw two flashes, and immediately after the second the deceased threw up his arms, exclaiming, " Oh, Peter !" to Peter Dunn, the driver of the engine, and then expired. Those on the train beoame frightened, and extinguished the lights. The train was then baoked into Clinton. Inspector Weldon and two deteotives proceeded to Clinton this morning.
