At the inquest to-day on the body of Mr Jo3eph Sanders, sen., who was found dead m the Harbor on Tuesday, a verdict m accordance with the medical evidence was returned, namely, that death resulted from drowning whilst suffering from an apoplectic fit. With reference to the statement published by a Marlborough paper, to the effeot that Mr Conolly was about to take the portfolio of Post and Telegraph, m addition that of Justice, Ministers state that the subject has never been discussed, muoh less decided ; but it is possible some rearrangement of portfolios may take plaoe after the holidays. Nelson, December 21. The Supreme Court opened to-day, with the Criminal business, Charles Stratford, alias Coleman Phillips, alias George Webb, alais George Smith, alias George Lee, indicted for-stealing, wa3 found guilty, and sentenced to 6 years' hard labor. He had three previous convictions m Wellington. A charge of keeping a disorderly house, which has now commenced, concludes the oriminal business, after which the case of Williams v. the Queen will come off. Christchorch, Dec. 20. Sir J. Yogel proceeds direct to Wellington. The banquet has, consequently, been postponed till his return. The ship Hurunui spoke the ship Lady Jocelyn, for Wellington, on Oct. 27, and learned that Captain Jenkins had died of apoplexy on the voyage. He was one of the oldest captains m the New Zealand service, widely known, and much respected. Dunedin, December 20. The City Council has, by letrenchment, reduced its overdraft from £32,000 to £9,000 during the year. The retiring Mayor is to be presented with an illuminated address. Invercaroill, Dec. 21. The sale of pastoral runs yesterday did not attract a large attendance. Of the nineteen lots offered all were dispoaed of with the exception of two, but only m five instances was a higher rental than upset price obtained. Timaru, Dec. 21. Detective Kirby has returned with Patrick Ryan, bis wife, and daughter, oharged with conspiracy to defraud their creditors.
