VERY LATEST POLITICAL NEWS.

Wellington, Tuesday, 8.20 p.m. The political situation may be thus put clown. Through the secession of the Auckland men Government have a majority, which is supplemented by Eicliardson’s seat. They are now jubilant in their strength, but the fact cannot be disguised that they are morally weakened, if there be any moral in the Executive, by the means they employed to gain a majority. The House is curious to learn what the terms of the bargain made with the Auckland members are. Swanson has the memo, in his possession, and will not disclose its contents until authorised to do so. At the time, Wood stated that there was not a scrap of paper in existence on the subject, and Hall vowed no such agreement was made, Swanson had it in his possession. A similar written agreement, it is said, is heln by Acton Adams re Marlborough and Nelson. All the afternoon to-day was occupied in endeavouring to force Hall to produce the Auckland agreement. The Council is indignant at the action of Wood, almost to a man, but pleased at the aceesion to Government strength. The Opposition will help to place the Liberal measures on the Statute book, guiding and shaping their nature. They are sufficiently strong to exercise paramount influence on all matters of policy. Government want to stay in office in order to issue Orders in Council diming the recess, to political supporters. The morning papers raise the cry of Separation, and this, I think, will soon obtain prominence, as Mi’ Whitaker, in his speech at Eden when contesting his election, dealt largely with the expediency of Separation. The wires being suspended is unfortunate at the present time, being limited to some two hundred words. A rumor has been started by Government that Messrs Sheehan and Macandrew wanted to join the Ministry, but it is utterly without foundation.
