Fire at Remuera.
Auckland, June 18, A fire occurred at Kemuera last night and destroyed a dwelling house on Mr Morrin’s property. The Licensing Bench have notified that in future three convictions will cause the offender to lose his license, and that the Bench will not renew a license where there are two convictions within a year. Licenses will not be renewed unless the requisites reported by the police as necessary are supplied to the satisfaction of the Licensing Commissioners. Port Chalmers, June 18. Arrived —the ship Otago, from Glasgow, 106 days out. Three deaths occurred on the voyage, namely, Mackay a passenger, died of acute inflammation of the brain ; Donald Kennedy, seaman, who fell overboard from the mast head and was drowned, and John Welsh, a steerage passenger, who was suffering from long disease.
Archdeacon Stock suggests that a permanent roll of names of persons who distinguish themselves in saving life or in other ways should be posted up in a public place. The Kinross case, after occupying the greater portion of the day, was again adjourned till Thursday next; but little progress was made.
