SPRING CREEK RIVERS BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Wednesday last. The members present wer" Messrs James (lane, C. O’Dwyer, and Isaac Clifford. The Secretary read a letter from the Chairman, Mr G. Dodson, asking for leave of absence from the present meeting, which was granted, and Mr James Gane was voted to the chair. The minutes of the prev ions meeting were read and ConfirmedLetters were read from the Treasury, intimating that the sum of £•!(> I.ls lid, [being the remaining"portion of the Divers subsidy, had been placed to the credit of the Board in the Nationrd Bank of New Zealand; from the Lover Wairau Rivers Board acknowledging receipt of letter re the works now in course of erection at the old breach. Mr Isaac Gifford said the Lower Wairau Rivers Board were pushing on with their works near the old breach, and by this time be thought they would be within the boundary of the Spring Creek District. Their Chairman, Mr Geo. Dodson had suggested in his letter that the Board should again consider the matter, and decide on some course of action ; he would move that the question be considered at once. The Chairman said it was only a question of right. The Government had given them jurisdiction over the Spring Creek District, the boundaries of which had been distinctly defined, and if the other Board was foolish enough to extend their works past these, they must take the consequence. It was absurd to think that this Board would allow works to be erected on their own territory which might prove disastrous to the district. Mr C. O’Dwyer said ho thought the works would not do the least good to the Blenheim side; he had no faith in them at all, but at the same time there was a limit to all things, and he was prepared to resist any encroachment on their district. After'some further discussion the following resolution was carried —“ That should the Lower Wairau Board of River Conservators persist in entering upon any land or river bed within the limits of the Spring Creek District for the purpose of erecting 'works or otherwise, this Board will cause such works to he removed at once.” The Secretary was instructed to forward a copy of the resolution to the Lower Wairau Rivers Board, and also inform them that it is the intention of the Board to act in strict accordance with the resolution. The Board then adjourned until the 9th April.
