Wellington, March 9. A writ for the election of a member of the House of Representatives for Auckland City West m the room of Mr T. B. Gillies resigned, was issued yesterday by G. S. Cooper, clerk of the writs.

The Government lias received telegrams from Messrs Yogel, Julyan and Sergeant, and Featherston, stating that the Four Million Loan is being negotiated through Messrs Rothschild. The loan has been issued bearing 4J per cent, interest. Particulars will shortly follow. Dr Buller has purchased, on behalf of some one else, between 5,000 and 6,000 acres of the Paraekaretu block. The price is between L 5,000 and L 6,000 pounds. The Scottish Volunteers have fired for the district ranges. Badinger made a score of 71, and takes Ist prize ; Captain Crowe 2nd ; and Sergt-Major Stevens 3rd. Mr W. H. Levin is appointed chairman of the Chamber of Commerce ; Geo. Hunter,

deputy chairman, and a committee of fifteen is appointed. A writ is issued for the seat vacated byMr T. B. Gillies, and is returnable on the 10th of April. An address to Mr Fox signed by all the members of the House of Representatives who voted with him after the no-confidence debate against the ministry of Stafford m 1872, will be presented to the Honourable gentleman to-morrow, by as many of the members of the House as happen to be m Wellington. Messrs Webb and Fulton, owners of the steam collier Easby, are about to purchase another steamer to trade m conjunction with the Easby. March 10. The Jockey Club have decided to have no Autumn Meeting this year.
