Good trade enquiry for wheat, but none offering : good lots 5s 4d : oats firm at Is lid to 2s 2d. N adieu, Sept. 19. The Nebraska sailed for Wellington at one today. Wellington, Friday. Government has decided that this Colony shall be represented at the Exhibition at Vienna in June next, exhibits being forwarded at the expense of the Colony. The principal exhibits at the Christchurch Exhibition in December will be sen t to Vienna. Wellington, Friday, 5 p.m. A luncheon was held to-day on board the Nebraska, when the members of both Houses, leading citizens and ladies attended. Mr Mc’Lean proposed success and prosperity to the Nebraska, her captain and owners. Captain Harding returned thanks. Mr Driver did ditto on behalf of the owners. The affair was a great success. ' Wellington, Friday, 7. p.m. A smart shock of earthquake occurred here at 5.5 p.m. 7.30 p.m. Telegrams from New Plymouth and Hawera report that Ballance and Atkinson have addressed the electors. Auckland telegrams report Fiji news to September 6th. * The war at Samoa continues. A naval engagement occurred, in which one vessel was sunk and all hands drowned, 100 were killed in one battle on land.
At Levuka the natives were fighting, killing, and eating each other. t The natives are robbing plantations at Vita Levu. 8 p.m. The Financial Statement is promised for Tuesday, and the Public Works Statement on Wednesday or Thursday. The new Stamp Act comes into operation on Ist December.
Several bills were advanced a stage, none of which were of much public interest.
