HAVELOCK NEWS.

(From our Own Correspondent.) Havelock, July 20. The Wakamarina still keeps up a fair average yield, over three hundred ounces having been purchased in this town from that vicinity for the quarter ending June 30th. Our township begins to improve in appearance, Mr. Fear has nearly completed his large and commodious hotel, and another substantial edifice for a similar purpose is in course of erection for Mr. J. Garrod. Our neat little church is just on the eve of completion, and we now only await the coming of Bishop Suter to consecrate it for divine worship. Mississipi cottage, lately erected for Mr. S. Green, reflects the greatest credit on the taste and workmanship of its builder. The northern end of the town has been greatly improved in appearance by several buildings lately completed for Messrs. Bromell, Smith, Brown, & Co. I am happy to say our school is again opened, under the able management of Mr. and Mrs. Beatsqn, whom I understand give the greatest satisfaction. The Timber trade is at present brisk, Messrs. Brownlie & Co. have just loaded thefineschooners Banshee, Florence, and Canterbury, besides the usual amount of small fry. An intrepid boat’s crew have given chase to the cutter Thames down .the Sound, for the purpose of seizing the vessel under a distress warrant ; having been absent three days and nights, and not yet returned, their friends here feel particularly anxious for their safety, and but for the well-known valour of their commander several boats’ crews would have been dispatched to watch over them.
