The Marlborough Express

Express Office, Friday night. Since our last report the grain market has not improved and prices remain unaltered. Several parcels of Barley have been sold for delivery in Wellington and Nelson. In Wheat, only some small parcels have been sold at 3s 9d. to 4s. Oats in anticipation of a demand had the gold diggings at Wairan Valley proved payable, were firmer, but may now be quoted at 3s. Messrs. N. Edwards & Co. quote Redwood’s silk-dressed Flour at £l3 cash. Flax continues to come to hand in quantity. By the latest telegrams we note that prices have not fallen since the previous mail ; and as this article is now prominently before the manufacturers in the English markets, we look forward to a fixed value for it being arrived at within a few months, when it will be ascertained whether this is a payable industry or not. Tallow and skins continue to come freely to hand from the boiling-down establishments, which are all in full work. We notice that the barque Alexandria has been laid on to convey flax, tallow, and wool to London. ENGLISH SHIPPING. Arrrived. —Halcione, from Wellington ; IGth April, Countess of Kintore, from Auckland ; 29th March, Cambodia ; 14th April, James Shepherd from Otago. Sailed.—27th March, Santon, for Auckland ; 2nd September, Argyleshire ; Bth April, Ludenham ; 13th April, Star of the South, for Wellington ; 27th March, Ramsey for Canterbury ; 13th April, Vanguard, for Otago ; 16th April, Rapido, for Nelson.
