Blenheim Borough Council.
An adjourned meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday evening last. Present— Messrs. Parmar (chair), Robinson, Sinclair, Taylor, Lichfield, and Nosworthy. The minutes being read, were confirmed. At the request of Cr. Nos worthy, leave of absence was given to Cr. Hodson on account of pressing business calling him away. A copy of a letter was read, requesting the Superintendent to publish in the Provincial Gazette certain Regulations recently passed by the Council. Bomi'ord's Bank —Cr, Litchfield wished to ask the Mayor, had he been present, whether it was his intention to expend the £2 voted by the Council in repairing the Bank ? The Chairman said he believed it was not the intention of the Mayor to do anything in the direction indicated. Cr. Litchfield was sorry to hear this, and thought something should be done before it was too late. Cr. Sinclair said that when a sum was appropriated by the Council for a specific purpose, a difference between neighbors should not be allowed to interfere with it. They were not to vote funds to play fast and loose with works affecting the interests of the public. Cr. Nosworthy considered that, as the money had been voted, it ought to be spent. Cr. Litchfield considered that the Council ought to asll the Mayor to do the work at once. Cr. Robinson said, as there appeared to be some difficulty in the way, perhaps it would be better to appoint someone else to see it done, as it ought to have been done long ago. Cr. Litchfield moved that the sum be expended, and that the Mayor be requested to see the works done without delay. Cr. Nos worthy, in seconding, said that the money, having been voted, could not be spent in any other way, unless revoked in the ordinary manner., Cr. Sinclair moved that the ex-Mayor see to the work being done. The Chairman ruled
that could not be done, as the Council had previously resolved that Cr. Dodson see the work done. Motion carried unanimously. Gorse Hedges.— Cr. Litchfield stated that it was his intention to bring forward a motion for doing away with gorse hedges within the boundaries of the town, regarding them as highly dangerous, and alluded to a narrow escape through the hedge catching fire, of Ewart’s Hotel and a large block of buildings adjacent thereto. The motion will also affect nuisances in the shape of manure, &c., lying on the streets. The Council then adjourned to the first Tuesday in March.
