VOLUNTEER FETE AT-SPRING CREEK ON BOXING DAY.

Notwithstanding the repeated showers that occurred iu the morning, and the unsettled aspect of the weather, adATge nambeivof the inhabitants of Spring Creek assembled on the farm of W. Soper, Esq;, to witness the' long talked of contest between the Spring Creek Volunteers ! or the various prizes offered for competition. There were eleven prizes in all, Mr. W. Soper- heading the list with a fat sheep. Previous to the shooting the Volunteers and their friends, to the number of about 70, sat down to a splendid dinner, which was prepared and superintended -by several ladies of the district... After doing ample justice to the viands set before them, the .Volunteers proceeded to the practice ground to compete with each other for the various prizes offered. The following is a list of the score :

As will be seen by the score, Capt. Bythell and Widsor Soper tied at 37, and in shooting off Bythell made an outer, and Soper a miss. F. S. Gane and W. Sutton tied at 36, and the shooting off resulted in the victory of the former. The contest now being over the Volunteers and friends proceeded to the house of Mr. Wheaton Soper, where a tempting tea awaited them. Having refreshed the inner man, they once more assembled on the green to indulge in various old English sports, such as leaping with the pole, running jumps, footracing, leap frog, &c., all of which were kept up with vigor and earnestness until drowsy night began to steal o’er the land, when they all repaired to the house to finish up the eventful day with a good dance. After a vote of thanks to the ladies, which was responded to by three hearty cheers, the room was cleared for dancing, which was kept up until about 10 o’clock, when, after 3 times 3 for Capt. Bythell, the company dispersed highly pleased with the day’s proceedings.
