Where a cross (x) occurs in lieu id the price, it indicates that the number of bales placed against it were broken, damaged, or piecy wools, ol which the price is not given. ’ Wool.— The Sydney Evening News, of October 3, says :—“ The news received by the Royal Mail Steamer Bombay has caused considerable astonishment amongst the wool growers. Wool, it is stated, is down 2d or 3d. per tb, and wheat in England has also sustained a heavy decline. The grain and flour market here is quite stagnant, operations of all kinds to-day were at a stand still, and little will be done till the mail news .are fully developed.” By the latest advices from the West Coast, we learn that the bar at Hokitika is still so far choked up that only very small steaftiers and other craft can either enter or go out, and several vessels have had to discharge and load at Greymouth, because even cargo boats could not go out to wait on vessels in Hokitika roads.
