THE SECOND ATTACK ON NGUTU-O-TE MANU.

The following official list of the killed and wounded in the late engagement, which we noticed in our telegraphic news last week, is from a telegram in the Colonist ■of Tuesday last: — Officers Killed, s.—Major Von Tempsky, Captains Buck and Palmer, Lieutenants Hastings and Hunter. Officers Wounded, 2. —Lieutenant Rowan (severely), and Dr. Best. Mbn Killed, 14. —Constables : Messrs. Davis, Corporal, Elkin, E. Barren, Finuesley, Hurt, Fettigru, Russel, and Usroal. Volunteers'. Messrs. Deck, D. George, Grant, Hughes, and G. Louisson. Men Wounded, 22.— Constables: Messrs. H. Ousten, Burke, O’Brien, O’Connor, Hogan, Fulton, Sbannigan, and Walton. Volunteers : Messrs. Caldwell, Griffiths, Harris, Hamblyn, Halloway, Hyland, Locker, Lynn, M'Manns, M‘Gasken, Melvyn, Quinsey, Wells, and Waldon. Men Missing, 2.—Darlington and Downes. The total number of killed and missing were 21, and wounded 24. No Nelson men were killed or wounded, neither were any of them engaged, but they may be at any moment. The Wanganui papers state that the dead and the wounded, who were unable to walk, were left on the field ! Colonel M‘Donnell’s clothes were shot through in several places. Major Von Tempsky was the first man killed. Lieut. Hastings was killed while commanding the rear-guard during the retreat. Colonel Haultain, the Defence Minister, goes again to the Eront. MTJonnell asks for 300 more men. The p.s. Sturt has been sent to Napier to bring the Armed Constabulary Force under Captain Eraser. Colonel Russell was to ask in the Legislative Council whether the 18th Royal Irish Regiment could not be used.
