SUICIDE BY PROXY.

The manner in which a rejected lover tricked a girl to -whom he was paying court into killing him has created great astonishment in Bridgeport, ConnectiArthur Hearn Cowl, who chose this means of suicide by proxy, was: a young man of 22, the son of a Connecticut millionaire. On visiting the residence of Emily Wheeler, the beautiful'daughter of a riclr banker, he proposed marriage to her, but she refused him. He appeared to take the rejection in good paTt, and as ho was leaving the house he handed the young, lady a .piece of ribbon from his pocket, saying, “I have a great surprise in store for you. Just pull this string and see!” Miss Wheeler pulled the string, there was a loud explosion, and Cowl fell at her .feet with a bullet in the temple. The rejected lover Had tied the ribbon to a revolver in his pocket. He died a few hours later in hospital.
