Mahon (.Minister for External Affairs) to investigate the copra- trade, owing to the severe handicap imposed of selling to a certain company at the company’s price, otherwise the copra would not he stripped'. Air Mahon promised to hold an inquiry.

The perpetrators escaped. ALLEGED MUTINY ON STEAMER. BRISBANE, Jau. 30. The inquiry into the alleged mutiny on the troopship Kanowna has been resumed. The captain asserted that the mutinous act consisted of five firemen going to the top deck to complain of a. grievance which did not exist and refusing to work unless they wore supplied- w't hj water from the supply tanks. He denied that they were under the influence of liquor when they were arrested. Ac Brisbane an inquiry is proceeding into an alleged mutiny of flromen oh hoard the Kanomva when she was on the Queensland coast on September 7 (stated a Brisbane cable on November *2l). CHARGES OF FORGERY. SYDNEY, Jan. 28. The hearing of the charges of forgery and uttering against Joseph Earle Hermann was to-day adjourned for three weeks' to enable an investigation to be made of his accounts. It v. a* stated that during 10 years -£7,000,000 had passed, through Hermann’s hands. The defence in the case will he that the accused is suffering from epileptic insanity.
