HELPING THE NEEDY. THE DOMMON/S GIFT. - WELLINGTON, Dec. 24. His Excellency the Governor, as' ■patron of the 'Poor of Great Britain and Ireland and Belgium Relief Fund', reports that he has to-day transmitted hy cable to the'High'Commissioner in-Lon-dou the sum of as the third cash contribution from the fund. The amount' comprises n second instalment jfrom Canterbury, including Ashhnrton i. and South Canterbury, of £IO,OOO, a third contribution front the committees of the Wellington and Marlborough provincial districts of £IOOO, and a sum i of £3200, being the amount subscribed to the Is Belgian Christmas Gift Fund instituted by the Wellington Sports Committee. The special instructions of- each committee and the wishes of those giving donations for special 'purposes have all been observed, and. the sum will be apportioned as* follows: £5527 for the poor of Great Britain aud Ireland, to' be handed to the executive of the Prince of Wales' Fund for administration, and £8673 for Belgian relief, to he given to the-proper authorities at Home for distribution-. TW total cash contributions now sent forward in connection with the fund amount to £-10,200. Very valuable shipments of food and clothing have also been s ent, Cnotributoins* of cash, stock and produce are still being made and ivi.ll be transmit-, ted as occasion arises-.
