Tlie Westminster" coroner, Dr Ingle-1 by Oddie, who investigated the deaths of a, man aged 49 and a boy of eight from a motor-car 1 andi a ta,xical> respectively, spoke of the fatal indecision or rash folly showed by pedestrians ill crosstsing a street. ! • ■ "The safest thing' for a pedestrian to do in such circumstances," I)r Qdtl'ie said, was: • "Stand still; then it Would bp the duty of drivers of swift | vehicles to avoid an accident; if they did: not- they would, have to explain why. Or, before attempting to cross — "Look a Ion.;; the streets to see whether any vehicle is coming/,, It is in<umbent, on pedestrians to take this precaution." In each case the jury found "Accidental death" and exonerated the driver.
