MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.
DEPUTATION 1 TO PREMIER. PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, July 17. A deputation of delegates from the Municipal Conference 'waited on the Prime Minister this evening and placed before him the results of the l conference's deliberations and the main points of the recommendations adopted. Rt. Hon. W. F. Ma ssey in the course of his reply said that the various matters submitted would receive serious consideration,/ particularly from the Minister most concerned,' Hon. H. D. Bell. The superannuation, scheme was prominent in the recommendations, and that matter had already been considered bv the Government A Bill had been prepared, and, as had been suggested, would take the form of an amendment to the National Provident Eund Act. He, asked whether the members of the innifwenec were unanimous as to making superannuation compulsory. „ Mr Luke: Almost so. Onlv a few of the smaller boroughs are afraid of financial strain. Mr Massey: Wo will do our best with the Bill. It will be introduced within a week or two, but I cannot guarantee a compulsory clause. To-day"' a Bill for licensing motor-cars was submitted, the fees to go to local bodies for road upkeep.—("Heal-, hear."} As to the other questions, our time is limited this session. and we have not dime as much as we would have liked to have done; but they will certainly receive attention tinsession following, after tlie elections have been disposed of.
