ENTERTAINMENTS.
THEATRE ROYAL. "In the Bishop's Carriage," which is described as a. huge dramatic masterpiece, will constitute the principal feature, at to-night's new programme at the Theatre lloyal. This due l.Tii;, Laction (4000 ft.) vividly parirays a. patkotis story of the underworld, and features tiie gifted American actress, Miss Mary Pick/ford, in a brilliant role. "The Madonna, of the Storm," a. capital dramatic play, will act as a. strong suppart of the star. The comedy section is n particularly 'bright one. The other liliny are all quite in keeping with the high standard for which the proprietary of the Royal .Standard Pictures is noted. \ PRINCESS THEATRE. An entirely novel plot .will be unfolded! in tiie "star" feature of tonight's new programme at the Princess Theatre, "file .Spell," a fine V'itagraph drama, depicts the unscrupulous ii.se. of the powfer of liyc.iiijLi.sin by an adventurer and is fuli of exciting! incidents and tense situations. A very fine scenic by the same eoitipany, "Picturesque India,", a most intemsting reproduction of England's vast Empire in the East, will be found a strong support to the star, as will a'so two fine dramatic contributions, "A Breath of Scandal" and "Saiii r andl Hid Son." 'The comic section will he found particularly strong, and the usual topical "Uazette," including a fine picture of the opening of the Auckland Exhibition,' will complete an attractive programme. CARNIVAL QUEEN ELECTION. It is a matter for congratulation, that the (lore candidate in the carnival queen election (Miss Delia Martin) secured the prize lor most progress during the past week, and the gain of 210 votes Siio'iild help to secure the f:2 worth of votes promised for this week. The result of the polling up to last Saturday haft brought Miss Martin from J2th place to third on the liist, and the enthusiasm now being shown by the supporters of her candidature auguis well for further progress. Attention is drawn to the fact that,a meeting of supporters and well-wishers will be held this ■■evening, and at which a- large attendance •is requested. BALL AT CLINTON. The annual ball at Clinton was held in the Town Hall on Friday last (writes our Tapanui correspondent). The weather being fine there was a large attendance. Kitty couples took part in the grand, mlavch. Svhich wan led oil by Mr Mackio and M : ss Maekic. Me-srs It oil,'! Corbett and Mackie officiated as M.C.s, and the catering was in the hands of Mr llcdpath, who gave every satisfaction. The music was supplied by Messrs Hundle (piccolo), Weejlcn (piano) and) 'Green (Mandeville 3 violin). Great credit is due to Mr McDonald (secretary) for the able manner in which he discharged his duties.
