M:acGi'bbon was elected to the Position and returned thanks for "he honor conferred utsori- him. He 'had Uie said) some, diffidence in accepting the position, a>> it involved a. good deal of tune. Tho League must bo a. real live institution if it washed to accompl.s'h. any good and. there •was a great d(.:rl of continuous work involved. He w.iulddohis host and would expect the "hearty co-one rat ion of the members in helping the League along. (Applause.) Mr P. C. Cray was elected viico-ehair-man and Mr A\ . H. P. Fleming secretary. In returning thanks Mr Gray .'aid the League was a provincial" institution and if t'hey .worked together they ivauld be albLo to accomplish 'some good tor the province. A great deal required to ibe done and they should see, no matter w'hat 'Governiment was in powei', | that Southland got a. fair share of the esjrondtture that was going. The chairman was elected the delegate, of the branch to the Council of the League, at Invorcargiil. It) was decided that the Hank of New Zealand toe the 'branch's hank and the chairman, secretary and one memiber of the committee were appointed to sign cheques. 'i'ne following were elected an Executive Committee: —The chairman, vicechainnian, secretary, and Messrs Speden B aikie, Ken-:e, Burrows, Bowmar and ZvfcKenssi?.

A discussion ensued on a point raised by Mr Poppeliweil. The rules stated that a portion of the committee should ba elected in July, but there was no time to do that this year. He moved, 'That it be a recommendation to the Central Council of tho League that such election oii committees for all branches be fixed this year on a day in September next." Mr Kerse seconded the motion which was carried.

Mr Poppelwell raised another point in respect to the annual sultecrip'tions. Ho thought if they 'had associate members at 5s each, it would create a. g! eater interest in the League. There were many who would probably like to be associated with the League, but 10s v/as mow than soma could afford to l>ay.

iMr Gray also approved of! the stiggestion. He thought that many young fellows, especially footballers* would join tho League if the su'kserintipn was reduced to meet the class referred to.

Mr Camribell said the same point had been raised at other . places, and lie would bring the matter under the notice of the Council at its next meeting. Tho following members were elected to the committee':—Messrs F. Wall is, •H. iMacGubbon, C. Cooper, F. Wallis, jun., D r Mcllroy, R. C Smith, James Graham, Walter Gee, H. L. Dola'inore, Joseph Hunter, W. A. Haunann, and the president of the Core Trotting Club. Mr Gray reported that a 'branch had been formed at Itiversclalo with 20 odd niemibers. Ho urged that meetings should'be held at Balfour, Waikaia, and Waikaka, and other places. He thought members of the Gore .branch should assist in promoting these meetings l and assist in every way possible. Messrs Poppelwell, Kerse, Bowmar end McC'reatli spoke in support of the suggestion and it was resolved to refer tho matted to the executive, and also that of the" appointment of su,l>-com-iiiittees lo canvass iqv members of the League.

A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the proceedings.

A numher of Invercargill gentlemen visited iS'ter.vart Island yesterday and addressed a mooting; of aiuouto 50 residents on the aims and objects of the TiOAgne. About 30 members of the League were enrolled.
