The action was the outcome' of a controversy in the columns of the 'Daily Telegraph between Mr D. O'Brien and the Grand Master of the Orange. Order, in which the. former contended that he was accused of being a disloyal subject.

SYDNEY, July 1. An action lias keen cotmimenee.d wherein tho Co-operative liwuran.ee Company (Ltd.) claims £50,000 for damages for alleged libel against tho 'Sun'"Newspaper'Conrpany. Tho libel, it is claimed, was contained in an article published' in the financial columns of that journal, commenting on the Cooperative Company's! annual report and the issue of a prof.pectirs dealing; with the Proposed increase .of capital. Plaintiffs claim that the comments meant that the company improperly refrained from laying .before the nublic the true facts *f its- financial position, and sought to obtain new capital by improper concealment of material facts.
