CORE A. & P. ASSOCIATION.

The annual .mfeettiig of members, of the Gore A. and P. Association was held yesterday afternoon, -14 members being present. Mr P. S. Cullen (president) occupied the chair.

MOTION OF SYMPATHY,

The chairman referred to the death of Mr Wim. Rankin, one of the .meiti-bers-of the association, which had-taken place Uiis week. Mr Rank-in (he said) had been a member of the association aiuli had for many year* been all exhibitor at tho shows. He moved, "That the association- records its appreciation of the services rendered by the late Mr Rankin and expresses- its sympathy with tho bereaved memlbers of the family." The motion was carried, the members standing.

REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET.

The annual! report and (balance-sheet ('already published) were taken as read. In moving their adoption the chairman said the association had experienced l a •fairly successful season. The weather had not been id the best, yet a record m entries had been put up, and he Imped the entries would be larger each succeeding year. ■■Mr .T. Clouston seconded the motion. IMr T. Sim said he noticed -that the receipts ifor schedules, Catalogues, etc., amounted to.less than tbe expenditure. lliprc was a difference of £l3 to the bad.

Lho chairman replied that the prize schedules were printed and distributed gratis. The receipts for advertising amounted roughly % Mt and the sales to about £lO.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The chairman announced that Mr James Stevenson had' been elected president for the current ■year, Messrs John Tumbull and! ThomifS Teller Vicepresidents, and Mr 'D. B. McKenzie treasurer, all without opposition.—(Applause.) Mejfcr, s Geo. Brett and J. M. Wise were re-elected auditors.

A ballot was then taken for 12 members of committee, and the following ■were elected: Messrs E. L. Byars, P S. ■Cuflen, A. G. Copland, John Diekison, D. Y. Dickie, R, T. Edwards, J HanJey. S. G. IrAler. W. G. Ladhrook, Geo. Morrison, John Waddell and 1 Robert Wyber. '

TBjc chairman moved, "That a hearty vote of thanks be accordedi to the retiring treasurer, who had filled the office for 14 years." Tift''was carried with acclamation. ,

The motion was supported' by Messrs C. Cooper, T. Logan, J. Kain and M. R. Lawlor, after which t'.c motion was carried.

SPEOTACULAIt ATTRACTIONS

'Mr D. B. McTveiiKie said the association should .make an effort to provide some amiuiscment and entertainment for the visitors to the show. He moved, "That it bo "a recommendation to the Programme.* Gon.i.nitteo to place three military items on the. programme for next show—viz., Lloyd Lindsay, rescue event, and leading "horses over hurdles." Mr J. Kain -seconded the motion, ex■Hressing the hope that these events would he '.placed on the programme for the first day of the show, as the second day's- programme was already too hill. The motion was carried.

TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS

The chairman referred to the stops that the committee had; already taken in regard to making suitable train, arrangements- for Sioi.v Day.

COMPLIMENTARY,

Tim president expressed hist, thanks for the courtesy and assistance "accorded'to him during his term, of office, and solicited similar co-operation for his successor (Mr James Stevenson). ■Mr Stevenson took -the chair amid applause. He expressed his thanks tor the honor conferred' upon him, and stated that he would do ,h-is best lor the association. He recognised) that the position had been filled by many able men,-and a high standard hadlbecn set. The association should strengthen its? meiribei'ship, and 1 then it coulu improve the grounds. Tlicv had 300 members, while iMasterton had 1300 or 1400 and Pal'merston North had ahout 2000. This district was just as good as either or the two he had' mentioned, and, lie hoped l every menfber would try to introduce two or three niem'bers during the year.—(Applause.)

THE SOUTHLAND LEAGUE.

■Mr W. H. P. Fleming (secretary of the Gore branch of the SciK-lnaml League) introduced Mr C. Cantplbell (secretary ,of the Southland League). Mr Fleming expressed briefly the aim® and obje*ts of tho League,"which, lie stated, existed for the benefit of Southr land' as a. whole. The association was already represented on the League by its ex-president, and what the League desired to do jic-v was to solicit the cociperation of tho members of the Gore Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Messrs' P. C. Gray and C. Campbell also spoke 'briefly op similar iines, and Mr Gray intimated that a meeting; of the committee would ibe held that night. Both gentlemen considered that the aim* and objects> of. the League were siichi as to commend' it to the farming (omununity as represented on the Gore A. and P. Association.

The proceedings terminated shortly afterwards with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
