News lias l>een received that tidal waves rising to a 'height of 42ft swept over Nassau Islnid, iloinjj considerable damage. lilt John Petersen and his wife lost everything 'and suffered rrivntions in regard to food and water for five months until they were rescued' by the steamer Dawn anil conveyed to' Apia (Samoa).

Nassau is two miles ii> length, is placed 11 degrees 32 minutes south and'l6s degrees 21 minutes west. It is owned by si resident of Apia, ■Samoa, ami produces cocoauuts. Its other products are sweet potatoes, taro, bananas and breadfruit. Cotton was planted! there many S'ears ago and some is now growing wild. Large numbers of turtles' are to be found there.
