DOG'S FIRE WARNING.
Denis Cunningham, the 11-year-old son of Mr George Cunningham, of Fernhurst, near Haslemere (Surrey), private secretary to Lord Moreley, described lately with pride how his dog "Veto" roused him from sleep on the previous night when the house was on fire, and enabled him to warn the household. He abandoned his tea in the nursery and came running downstairs without his slippers in his eagerness to tell of his dog's cleverness. "I woke up and found "Veto" scratching his face. The room was full of smoke and was all lighted up. I jumped out of bed and called nurse and told her to look after Peggy. That's my sister—she's five. Then we all went outside and watched the house burning. I had Veto and Lassie—Lassie's a cocker spaniel—in my arms." The house was completely burnt out.
