It is reported that preparations are being made for the opening up of a 'large new colliery at Cessnock. The name of the party which is financing •tha scheme has not been divulged, but it is believed to be a wealthy speculator who negotiated the purchase of the same land five years ago. The new colliery will be the largest in the Soutliern Hemisphere. CABLE OVERHAUL. Received March 25, 10.40 a.m. SYDNEY, March 25. The cable steamer Patrol has returned after overhauling the Eastern cable between Botany Bay and The actual coslt ctf repairs was £25,000. The cable laid in 1876 was found to be in better condition than the new one, but both are in excellent condition.
