CORRESPONDENCE.
PROPOSED NEW COUNTY. TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln your leading article of Tuesday last you are evidently under the impression that the committee of ratepayers who are advocating the formation of a new county have lost heart in the movement (to quote.your words). I can assure you that such is not the case. They are very much alive, and the ratepayers are being approached with a large measure of success, right through the proposed new area. The committee at its meetings decided on the couise it would pursue, and is acting up to it. Your suggest.on was I believe adopted oh the last occasion, and ended in failure. It is just a matter that lies entirely in the hands of the ratepayers themselves, and if they are in favor cf the change (and I believe the large majority are from my personal oanvass) -there is nothing io stop Parliament granting the wishes of the people that have to pay for the upkeep of their roads and bridges having control of them.
! As a. good deal of ground has> to be covered by the committee and those interested, it cannot be done without time aud trouble, but I trust that the efforts expended will be successful. At the same "time we are pleivsed to have the help of your valuable paper or anyone interested in the project.—l am, JOHN G. E. WINSLOE, North Oh&tton, January 24, 1914.
