THE COLLIERY DISASTER.
FINDING OF THE INQUIRY. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH COPYRIGHT. PEP ljyn'Kl> PRESS ASSOCIATION Received January 15, 11.10 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 14. At the inquiry into the Senghenydd colliery disaster a verdict that it was accidental was returned. It was found that the colliery was properly ventilated, properly inspected on the morning of the explosion, that the number of examiners was adequate, that the explosion was due to gas fed bv coal dust.and that the cleansing of the floors of the roads was systematically carried out It was recommended that more attention be paid to the roofs and sides, and the Home Office is to be urged to endeavor to find a solution oi : the dust problem. The evidence enabled the Committee of Inquory to fix the lamp station as the probable starting point of the explosion, but was unable to say whether ignition was by a spark from an electric wire or not, but the evidence prunted out that a naked light at the lamp station was no neglect on the part of anybody. The lamp station,,, the report continued, ought to be placed in a bar of the shaft and water tanks should be fitted with a sprayer and the use of shovels and buckets discontinued.
The number of inspectors in the mines was insufficient.
