ENTERTAINMENTS.

"THE POLITES." Bright, breezy and wholesome, without the slightest taint of coarseness which is sometimes associated with vaudeville, describes the entertainment given by Mr Beebe's company of artists, "The Polites," on Christmas Eve" at the Theatre Royal but owing to the unsuitability of the night the audience was somewhat small, xhe programme consisted largely.of catchy ragtime and. coon melodies, \tdtty jokes and choruses and very clever dancing. Acrobatic feats' when cleverly performed always find favor with an audience and the work of Miss Edith and Mr John Arteens, assisted by a clever foxterrier which could walk either on its fore or hind legs, climb ladders, etc., was thoroughly appreciated. Lazern, described as "The world's greatest Prestidigitator," though perhaps not displaying much that is new, certainly performs his work in a remarkably clever manner.

At the Theatre Rcyal last evening a sacred concert was given by the company, the items being interspersed with several pictures by the Royal Standard Picture 'Proprietary. The programme was sufficiently varied to suit all tastes, and the performers were well received. The pictures were excellent. "In the Usurer's Grip" and "A Modern Prodigal" being particularly interesting.
