CLUTHA COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the meeting of the Clutha County Con noil on Friday the engineer reported that several miles of grading had been done during the last month on Greenvale and Glen kenich roads, and gravelling will be done on Middle Road and Green vale next month. The formation on the Taumata to Clinton road would have been completed last week if' the weather had kept dry. The continuous wet had undone .a considerable amount of work and hampered the carrying out of work in every part of the country. The report was adopted. Councillor Quin moved and Councillor Gumming seconded, "(1) That tenders lie called for metalling 20 chains of Seddon Road, Glenkenich, Government grant; (2) that tenders be called for gravelling 18 chains, Shanks' Road, tenders to be in by Janaury 9, 1914." The resolution was carried.
Councillor Cumming moved and Councillor Quin seconded, "(1) That the engineer procure 90 tons of Logan's Point metal for Webb's Road, Waipahi; (2) that the engineer be authorised to expend £25 in reducing grade on Cemetery Road, Waikoikoi, and £7 for hill near Simmer's." The motion was carried.
The tender of R. Dynes was accepted for gravelling White's Hill, Waikaka Valley, at 2s per yard, up to £SO. Mr A. Couston, Wairuna, wrote drawing attention to the fact that the Council had never fenced the roadline, as agreed by the engineer, on the road through his property. Scott; Glenkenich and part of Waipahi, Mr John Steward ; remainder of Waipahi, Mr Charles Trusler. The clerk to the Southland County Council wrote that his Council declined to contribute anything towards the cost, of the erection of a bridge at Purvis', ] as its erection would not benefit any of the Council's ratepayers. (At the last meeting of the Council it was resolved that a bridge be erectednneatr t Purvis' at a cost of £l5O, the Council' to bear the cost on a basis of £2 for £1 paid by Morris Bros., and the Southland Council was to be asked to contribute towards the cost.) . After discussion Councillor Begg moved, "That legal advice be taken to ascertain if the Southland Council could be compelled to contribute." This was carried. Mr K. Neave, on behalf of the trustees in the state of the late F. D. S. Neave, Wairuna Downs, .wrote asking the Council to consider whether it could metal the entire length of the road leading from Waipahi railway station to the estate.
