SUPREME COURT. WELLINGTON. FKlt UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. At the Supreme Court to-day the grand jury handed a statement to Mr Justice Chapman drawing his Honor's attention to the fact that a true bill having been found against a man charged with having committed a serious offence against a young girl they were unamimiousiy of opinion that persons found guilty of offences of this nature against girls under the age of consent should be dealt witß very severely and made the subject of corporal punishment.
His Honor said he could not express an opinion now as the man was on trial but ne would keep the address befocro him. "SOME MISTAKE." WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. With respect to a telegram from Christchurch stating that the wireless operator on the Wahine heard the Philomel talking to the Psyche in the naval code there appears to be some mistake. The operator says he never gave any such information. He could not hear any vessel talking to the Psyche and he would not have known what vessel it was if he had.
FIRE AT CAVEP.SHAM. DTTNEWN Nov. 3. A house named "St. Beliers Court/' Gavarsham, occupied by Mr E. Clancy, was gutted by fire on Saturday night. The insurances on the house amounted to £l5O in the Standard and £l5O on the furniture in the Commercial IToilon. FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT. ELTHAM, Nov. 3. J. Attrill, a railway employee and a resident of Eltham for several years, was returning from the direction of Teroti this evening on a velocipede when he was run into; by a train, with fatal results. >
