FATHER AND SON.

+ DUEL FOR A GIRL. A fanner named Blanchard and his son, in the village of Bussiere. near Aubusso'.i, ; ii the department of Creuse (France), discovered recently that they were both in love with the same girl, a dairymaid on a neighboring farm. For several days violent disputes occurred between them. At last they decided to settle their quarrels by a revolver duel, and the encounter took place on a recent Sunday at sunset. The only spectator was the girl for whom they were fighting. The two men emptied their revolvers without result, and by common consent it was decided to continue the duel with knives. The younger man sprang on his father, who, less active of movement, had no time to defend himself and fell dead from a stab to the heart. The peasant girl w'ho was the cause of the duel watched the farmer die without emotion. Next day the son was arrested on a charge of murder.
