The High Commissioner of Australia (Sir George Reid) has arranged for a series of lectures on resources to be delivered at public schools, including Eton, Haileybury, Tollbridge, Uppingham, Rugby and Dulwich.

CHANCELLOR AND CRITICS. LONDON, Sept. 25. Lord Salisbury, in a letter in reply to Hon. D. Lloyd George (Chancellor of the Exchequer), refers to 'Hansard' to show that his.father> in the case of compulsory purchase in 1877, claimed compensation upon terms which, in view of certain precedents, the House of Commons Committee considered excessive, while the House of Lords Committee, in view of other precedents, considered it justified. Moreover, when the House of Commons supported its own committee, Lord .Salisbury advised the House of Lords to yield, lest its action should be open'to misconstruction.

THE MARCONI COMPANY. Received Septenvber 26, 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 25, The Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company is increasing its capital by £50.000 in order to squire t!ie Goldsclimict system. In the report of the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Cbsipany—-■that is, the English company with which the Government has entered into a contract—a net profit of £413,294 for 1012 is reported, against £141,717 for 1911 and £60.513 for 1910 (stated "Hie Daily Mail' of August 14). A part of the year's profit, it is stated, wag derived from tlio realisation of shares, and tlio directors have appropriated £IOO,OOO of it to create a reserve account. They declare final dividends of 10 per cent, on tlie preference and ordinary shares. This itiakos 17 per cent, for the year on the preference and 20 per cent, on the ordinary, which received the same rate for 1911.
