Rhodes (Acting-Minister for Defence) to protest that regarding the ■ supply of stoics for Iho Su uon Territorial Camp public tenders had not , been called. They pointed out that all ' they asked for was a fair field for com- 1 petition, and suggested that in the case of this camp Dunedin merchants would surely have been bettor able to tender satisfactorily than outside mer- | chants. It was confessed by one merchant that there had been no necessity at all for the recent increase in the price of butter. The deputation also , asked for particulars of the prices paid : to the contractor. ( The Minister replied that it was not customary to give these details, but lie assured the deputation that he. would makovlose inquiries and that an oppnr- : tunity of tendering would bo given next year. j i
