A man named John Hitchcock, single, aged 41 years, was brought into the Ohristchtirch Hospital late yesterday from Akaroa with a severe gash in Ins throat.

It was alleged in bo a case of attempted suicide, and inquiries revoaled a sensational story, Hitcheock, who comes irom Dunedin, had been staying with his sister. It is alleged that he and his ster went lor a walk in Graham V alley, and he, it is alleged, drew a razor and attacked his sister while they were passing through a patch of bush. His sister protected herself with her hands sustaining severo gashes. Hitchcock, it is alleged, threw her on the ground and tried to gash her throat. Ultimately she got free and ran to the nearest house for assistance. The-police were immediately summoned and Hitchcock was found lying on the ground unconscious with a gash in his throat. He received riKxlual attention at Akaroa and later was brought into Christchurch by motor-car. His condition is dangerous. His Mister is a single Woman and a resident of Akaroa. It ig understood that Hitchcock had been suffering Irom insomnia.
