FOOTBALL.
MATAURA CLUB. The Mataura Football Club held its annual meeting in the 'Athenaeum last evening, when there was an attendance of over 30 members and intending members. Mr Evison (president) presided, and in moving the adoption of the report an?! balance-sheet (already published) stated that he was very pleased to see the club in such a sound financial position, which was largely due to the work of the energetic secretary (Mr J. Crombie). He congratulated the seniors on being runners-up for the banner last season, and felt confident that they would this year excel last year's performance. He would like to sec all the members indulge in plenty of training, for without that they could not expectto occupy a high position on the football field. The club ought to be proud of having included in its team such brilliant players as Patterson and Knight, both of whom had played in the Southland representative team last season. The speaker concluded by wishing the club every success in the future.
The motion was seconded by Mr W. Mowat and carried unanimously. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, M'r John Waddell; viee-presiclents, Dr. Shore, Messrs C. D. MeConnell, W. Mowat, A. Reid and T. J. Smith; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Crombie (re-elected); committee, Messrs V. Hayles, J. Adam, T. Carroll, and captain and deputy-captain of second fifteen; captain of first fifteen, Mr W\ Hayles; deputy-captain, Mr J. Adam; delegates to sub-union, Messrs J. Crombie and T. Carroll. It was decided that the election of captain and deputy-captain for the second and third fifteens be held over till a later date. Several new members were elected. The subscription for the season was fixed at 2s Gd for seniors and Is for juniors. Tt was arranged to hold the opening day on Wednesday, April 2. Mr W. Sloan was appointed to look after the grounds. It was decided to hold a seven-a-side tournament at the end of the season. Messrs J. V>"addell, J. Crombie and T. J. Smith were appointed to secure a suitable trainingshed.
