VALEDICTORY AT KAIWERA.

A POPULAR SCHOOLMISTRESS. A very enjoyable social was held at the Kaiwera School on Wednesday evening, when parents, children and other residents met to bid good-bye and make a presentation to Mrs Munro, who has , resigned her position as teacher of the Kaiwera School on account of ill-health {-.\rites our Kaiwera correspondent). As a proof of the esteem in which Mrs Munro is hold the building was packed. Mr D. A. Purvis presided. A short musical programme was submitted, to which the. children under Mrs Munro contributed several excellent items. Mrs John Scott and Mrs D. Robertson gave solos which were much appreciated. Mr 'Munro sang "New /Jealanfl for Me" and was deservedly encored, and later ni the evening he gave "Killarney" in good style. Mr William Milne gave enjoyable selections on the zynophone (an instrument new to the district). Tito chairman said they had met that evening to bid a formal farewell to Mrs Munro, who was leaving the school; in fact, had resigned from the teaching profession on account of ill-health, a j fact which they all regretted. Mrs I Munro was a good teacher and was a j favorite with the children. She was popular with the residents of the district, and her many friends throughout the district could not allow lier to depart without giving her some little memento which would keep hex in remembrance of Kaiwera. He hoped that •after a rest from teaching she would speedily be restored to good health. Misses Robertson and Scully (representing the children) then read an ad■dress and presented Mrs Munro with an epergne and a silver-mounted honeydish. Mr John Scott {chairman of the School Committee) on behalf of the district presented Mrs Munro with a purse of sovereigns and the chairman presented Master Robbie 'Munro with a set of brushes. Mr Munro returned thanks on behalf of Mi's "Munro.

The ladies of the district provided excellent refreshments. The room was then, cleared and dancing indulged in until the "wee sma 7 "hours." Mr Chas. Allan (violin) supplied good music and Mr John Clements, run., made an efficient M.C.
