MANANUI (3) v. MATAUP.A (nil). Tho first match or the. first round of fixtures under the auspices of the Eastern District Ladies' Association was played on the Caledonian Grounds yesterday, Man ami i I. heating Mataura by three goals to nil. The referee was Mr D. Droavcr, of Invcreargill. Play throughout the first spell showed good combination but in the second spell there were some signs of falling back, the players no doubt getting tired. Good passing was witnessed on both sides. As the Mataura team is composed of nearly all new members great praise' is due to them. The Mauanui hacks played well into the forwards' hands, the captain (Miss Whytock) and deputy-captain (Mrs Whytock) playing well. The Mataura goalkoeix'r is also worth mentioning. Miss Wheeler (Mataura) did well as a forward, Miss Brown as left half, Miss Hayles as centre half and Miss Milne as forward. Miss O. Alexander scored a goal for Manamii in the first spell, Miss K. MeFarlane doing likewise. The latter also soo'red again in the second round. Miss Nellie. MeCbrkindale and Miss K. Wayte (Mananui) deserve praise for their play and they promise to bo very strong players. Tho Mananui girls entertained Mataura at dinner at the, Coffee Palaco at the conclusion of the match, spending the time subsequently with music until the 8 o'clock express. The match Manamii P> v. Reamoana B was won by the latter by four goals to nil. The former team played one girl short.
