PAY OF MUSICIANS.
WELLINGTON, May 15. The demands of the newly-formed Wellington Performing Musicians' Industrial Union of Workers were before Mr Hally (Conciliation Commissioner) to-day. The assessors went into committee to consider the various applications for exemption. I The conference agreed to the following proposals: The award shall apply only to musicians employed to play musical instruments at skating-rinks, and public dancing assemblies, in re-! freshment rooms and in connection with dramatic performances, variety picture entertainments, and performances by operatic and comedy companies. Each, performer shall be paid at the rate of not less than £3 per week for six performances and one matinee except in the case of general theatrical peri'onnances, when matinees shall be paid for at the rate of 10s per performance. Other points are still being considered. SAILORS' INCREASE IN WACES. LONDON, May 15. At a conference of Liverpool Shipowners and Shipping Unions it was arranged that an advance of 10s a month in wages should be given to sailors and firemen. ARBITRATION COURT. AUCKLAND, May 15. LITHGOW STRIKE PRISONERS. SYDNEY. May 15. The Lithgow Prisoners' Release So- \ ciety has circularised unions throughout the S:ato, favoring a one day's striked as a protest against the Government] for not releasing the Lithgow strike' prisoners. A meeting at ' which 40 unions were represented endorsed the action advocated in the circular. I
