GORT METHODIST CHURCH.

QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the. Gore Methodist Circuit was held last even mg. There ware 14 office-bearers present and Rev. Rugby Pratt presided. The balcnco-sheet showed that the receipts for the quarter, including Golden Gift Sunday, to"! ailed £lO4 10s, and the >F"penditure, which wiped out the circuit debt, was £lO3 lOs 9d, thus leaving a credit balance of 10s 3d.' This was considered to be highly satisfactory, more especially as the circuit had cleared off the long-standing debt, a.nd the hope was expressed that in future each quarter's income would meet its own expenditure. The only debt left is that on the church property. The 'chairman reported that the membership returns totalled 112. -~l.t was resolved, "That the annual harvest festival be held about the second Monday in May; that the anniversary services be held on the first Sunday in June, and that Rev. W. Green - slade be asked to conduct the services." It was reported that the Southland Methodist Council would hold the quartc:ly meeting, at Gore early in May and \l was resolved, "That a public meeting be held at night to be addressed by visiting ministers, the proceeds to be in aid of the Home Mission Fund." It was decided to take up the Foreign Mission collection in July. It was also reported that the Ladies' Parsonage Guild 'had a credit of £6, and the thanks of the meeting were accorded to the ladies for their timely aid. A vote was taken on the question of Methodist union on the basis agreed upon by the Conference and was adopted unaimously. The Sunday School, Wesley Club and other Church organiastions were reported to be in a- healthy condition. The thanks of the meeting were accorded to the choir for its services in connection with the recent concert. Mr D. L. Cumberbeach was appointed local agent for the 'Methodist Times.' The matter of the erection of a new church building at Mataura was mentioned a>nd referred to the chairman to report to next meeting. Mr E. C. Smith gave a brief and interesting account of the recent Conference held at Auckland, for which the meeting accorded him a vote of thanks.
