THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
PREMIER TO RESIGN. MR MASSEY'S PART. We are informed on reliable information that Sir Joseph Ward will hand in his resignation to the Governor on February 14 and will recommend that Mr Massey be sent for to form a Ministry. Our informant states that Hon. T. Mackenzie will move a no-confidence-motion against Mr Massey at a later period. We are also informed that Mr Millar will hand in his resignation both of his portfolio and his seat in the House in the course of the next few days. It seems probable that Mr Millar's impending resignation has had the effect of forcing Sir Joseph Ward's hand. So many apparently wiiil rumors have been current of late that it is difficult to place confidence in any of them. Our informant in this case, however, as a prominent Liberal M.P., who states that he can give lii.s word that the announcement with fact. Under these circumstances then, the. minor may l>e relied on as indicative of the party's intentions at the present time. Whether these intentions will be carried out up to the letter is another matter.
