A NEW RAILWAY.
NAPIER-GISBORNE SECTION. PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. NAPIER, Jan. 29. The ceremony of turning the first sod in connection with the construction of the railway to connect Napier and Gisborne took place this afternoon at West Shore in fine weather. The attendance was very large ai.d representative of the whole district. The town was gaily dressed with bunting and a half-holiday was observed by the business people. The ceremony was performed by Sir Joseph Ward and speeches were delivered by the members for the district. The Prime Minister was also entertained at a complimentary luncheon.
