Five hundred Italian foundrymen at Luxemburg struck owing to the masters deducting the men's contributions towards invalidity insurance. They stormed the works and bombarded the police with bricks. The police fired a volley, killing three and seriously wounding six rioters. Soldiers restored order. BRISBANE TRAM TROUBLE. GENERAL STRIKE TO-MORROW. Received Januarv 29, 8.55 a.m. BRISBANE, Jan. 29. After a pr- cession in the streets there w\as a big demonstration in the park. Union leaders delivered fighting speeches in favor of strikes. A conference representing 43 unions last night resolved that the action of the Tramway Company in prohibiting badges constituted an attack on unionism as recognised under Statute law, and that unless a satisfactory settlement is reached in the meantime a general cessation of work will take place on Tuesday evening. The result was greeted with enthusiasm by a great crowd gathered outside the hall. Mr Bowman (Leader of the Labor Party), in a speech, said the fight was not alone for the tramway men, but for the whole union movement. The Employers' Federation had played a strong part in the trouble and the unionists were going to teach them. If they were going to stand behind the' Tramway Company the unionists as a body would also take a hand. The manager of the company declared that if the men had appealed to law the company had decided to let the law settle the dispute. LATEST DEVELOPMENTS. Received Januarv 29, 9.45 a.m. BRISBANE, Jan. 29. The Tramway Company altogether has secured 85 new hands. The engineers at the power house ceased work last night. The manager stated that this would cans© a little inconvenience but could be overcome. WORKERS' SACRIFICE. Received January 29, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 28. Mr A. F. Hills (man'^in o - director) asked a meeting of Thames ironworkers to sacrifice half of their November advance in wages in order that the company might secure the construction of two cruisers. Twelve hundred of the workers assented, there being only i 0 dissentients. The meeting was called upart froJi the trades unions. 1 GLASGOW DOCKERS. FURTHER. COMPLICATIONS. The Glasgow dockers unanimously resolved not to resume work on Monday under the conditions which the Executive of the Union arranged with the masters with a view to bringing Glas- . gow into line with Dundee and Liverpool. The strikers are communicating with other ports with a view to a sympathetic strike.
